I understand that some of you may be using diesel oil in your bikes with some success. Just a heads up on using diesel oil in your bikes. Soon the only diesel oil that you can purchase will have the spec CJ-4 on it. This is the new spec for 07 diesels with the new emission equipment called particulate filters for the exhaust. This has a totally different additive package that has not been used up to this point and may not work as well with wet clutches as the older version diesel oils that some of you have been using. If you know of anyone using this new oil let us know how it is working out for them.

He's actually been around for a bit and offers deals on oil. Not a bad guy.

Next time I put oil in my bike its going to be Conklin 20W-50 High performance synthetic. Designed specifically for motorcycles and other performance vehicles. The only oil I use is Conklin 15000 mile parasynthetic.

We are not recommending the use of diesel oil in bikes, but merely advising those that are using it to beware of the new diesel oils that just came on the market. If you go to some of the other sites at the bottom of this website and do a search you will see many comments on this. I have been riding myself for over 40 years and have seen a lot of different concoctions used by bikers, so nothing surprises me.

Some bikers seem to think so. I personally think that the clutch may be affected and also automotive oils are not designed for the sheering forces of the tranny like in a motorcycle. Some of the motorcycle specific oils also meet the GL-1 gearlube spec, which gives it more protection for the engine by keeping the foaming down, automotive oils do not. I think those that do some stunting should not push their luck with automotive oils as the clutch is one of the most important tools at a bikers disposal when pushing the envelope.

If you are using the syn3 harley oil then I don't need a sample since I have done some already and that oil shears back to a 40 weight, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything as far as wear protection goes. Also if you want to stick with a full synthetic bike oil then on your next change look us up and I will be able to save you a couple dollars a quart by using the Amsoil 20w 50. We have a couple of the dealers from our group that live in your same town.

I have copied a few links that show some testing of rotella T against some other oils. The spec's that you pointed out for your bike do not include diesel oils, as the S (for spark ignition engines, gas) before each letter stands for gas engines. C's stand for compression ignition engines (diesels) but some of you do use it with no apparent damage.

If your owners manual only gives you those specs and makes no mention of JASO MA/MA-2 then the oil you are using is OK for your bike, but I think you might be over looking the part concerning these other specs which apply to wet clutch performance.

Yea, I forgot the JASO MA that it calls for as well..

Amsoil is too damn expensive though.. 9.40 for a quart? Thats nuts.

I haven't really found anything locally that has the JASO MA bit. Kawi dino oil works just fine changing it at 3000 miles. Costs about $2 a quart.

I'm going to change filter brands after my warranty expires- probably Fram or K&N for less than Kawi's filter.

I use Shell Rotella T for 16$ a gallon, 4$ for a Purolator PureOne filter.. :cheers:
