Hey all,

Oil debate goes on, on, on and on.

HDEO oil = Heavy Duty Engine Oil.

Like all other oils, you have good ones, bad ones, and great ones. Most of these HDEO oils are rated for gasoline engines. (Have never read a bottle that said desiel specific oil).

These oils are rated for use in you cummins, allison, detroit trannys (automatics).

These clutch plates require the same kind of lubrication as that of a motorcycle. These trannys are seriously abused behind 500+ horse turbocharged diesel engines, continuously slammed from forward to reverse.

I have asked this same question before and will ask again "Does any one have any proof of a clutch failure due to the use of a non motorcycle specific oil"?

When they change to formula to the HDEO oils check and see if it is not still rated for the above mentioned trannys.

Check out a website called bobistheoilguy.com all sorts of UOA's from all name brands and weights of motoroils, both motorcycle specific and automotive. Some pretty good info here.

PlayfulGod, I live in Tunnel Hill, I know Tammy (Kirk's).

All sorts of stuff on the internet about this problem or that problem because of this or that. Most Sport bike clutches go because of hard riding and a little abuse. High revving and dropping the clutch for burnouts, or just a power wheely. When these clutches have been replaced, the actual parts tell the story. I would imagine a clutch failure due to the extra slick stuff in motor oils would still have some of or most of the clutch lining still in tact. I haven't seen one like this. I have seen burn't, glazed from excessive heat. But that is kind of hard riding/a little abuse. These clutches have a blue tint to them from being to hot, or are just worn to the point of replacement.
