well i have been thinking of what i a, going to do when i get out of high school and i think the best thing for me would be to go into the Marines, i have already tooken the practice ASVAB and scored a 75 i believe, the national average is 30 something (that dont meen i am going to be a great marine or nothing but still)

i know some of you were rangers and sutch but i think by far the one that apeals to me most is the Marines

I am going to do a four year contract and if i continue to like it i think i will just continue with my career in the Marines

Bull

You said you wanted to be a Cop. The Marines would be great to help achieve that goal. Do what you can to get into the MP's and your set.

Bull... I think that is a good idea for anybody that is willing to put their heart into it. It won't be easy and it will test you beyond any way you've ever been tested before.

With that being said, you will gain some major respect from me and many others if you do go thru with it. It will turn you from a young kid into a man. All kidding aside. If you think you can take it and you are willing to stick to it...you will come out better in the end.

you're alright in my book for seriously considering the service.

I don't know if anyone in your family is or was ever in the service, but in my family, all of my uncles, my cousins, my father and my Mom, have served. And my Mom is a serious ass kicker.

I think that's where I get my steel stiletos ...... lol

Give it a go, and give it all you have, you will learn more than you can imagine and when you're time is up, you're contribution as a civilian will be invaluable.

Congrats on your decision to serve our country. :pat: But as a prior serviceman (USAF) I'd highly recomend finishing college first, If your serious about having a millitary career I'd recomend getting into a college ROTC program or even apply to a military academy. That way youll be an officer :2cents:

Iwas enlisted the enlisted core is the back bone our military. But not only is quality of life much better as an officer, but its the executive type leadership skills youll get out of it and the experience to show with it, thatl payoff if and when u ever decide to leave the military and go to private sector someday. Not to mention officer retirement benefits are much better than enlisted. Anyways just my :2cents: and what I would have done if I could do it over again. :2cents:

best of luck to your future career :pat:

I'm an enlisted E-5 in the Army right now, and love it. I joined straight out of high school and have been in for a little over 3 years now. It's not the best money in the world, but it gives you a great background when you get out. My plan is to keep working on my degree and eventually go Green to Gold, for officer, you can make a good career out of it if you stick to it. Also, a 75 on the practice test is pretty good, you should be able to get any job you want.

I was drafted into the Army in '69. Took a battery of tests and someone said to do bad on them and they'll throw you out. I thought no way, I'm gonna do my best. I soon got called to go to Warrant Officer school to be a helicopter pilot. I agreed until they said I would have to extend my service for another year. I put military police on my wish list, but went on to become a tank driver and then four years of college under the GI Bill. But I always wonder about if I had taken the pilot training where I would be now.

Bull,

Great idea to join. If you're looking at being a cop though, I'd probably say go MP with the Army, that's just me though. I was in the Army, it was alright, just really depends on where you get stationed. The Marines are more of like a front-line fighting unit where they are like the first in and last out, some people say just "bullet magnets" or "bullet targets" cause of it. Just what I've been told though I don't have any disliking towards any branch.

Dude, DON't join the Marines!!! I've had three good friends and my older brother join the Marines. They all hated it. All but one have gotten out. Join the AF. It's not cuz I'm in the AF, it's because it's the best service out there. We got the most bases and the most money (better living). At least look into it. DON'T join the Marines!!

Ya... if you want to join the military you need to make sure you join the right one.

But DL, I'm not sure he can join the AF. Don't they have strict physical characteristics? Last time I checked Bull wasn't a small kid.

They'll take you in boot camp. You train up until the final test at the end. if you can pass that, you're in. The rest is just maintaining. So as long as you can do pushups, situps and 1.5 mile run in good time then he'd be straight. it don't matter how big you are as long as you can do so many pushups and situps then run in a decent time. At the end of basic training my 2 mile time was like 12 minutes and change. They work you into shape. i wish i could go to basic just to get back in shape cuz they force you to do it.
