***Want opinions about Lowering a Bike****

I want to lower a 03 GSXR 600, so that I will be able to touch down flat footed. Right now I can barely touch with my tippy toes . My main concern is how will lowering change the design of the bike. I don't want to lower it anymore than necessary.

I've had a few guys tell me they ride that way and they just lean the bike to one side when they have to stop. I feel uncomfortable about this, especially because of the weight of the bike compared to me. I am only 5-2 and weigh 125. This is my first bike and I just want to be comfortable on it. I have taken the classes and I have my endorsement.

Any advice will be helpful.

Thank you

Thank you
But, I don't think that will make enough difference :(, since the seat is already thin

Comfort is king

I have a couple of buddies in my club that lowered their bikes. They had mixed feelings afterward though. But you have to know these guys nothing can be simple. They went from stock height to slamed on the pavement. Helps at the track but day to day it gets to be annoying. Lean into a corner an the foot pegs scrap. We did have one that lower the bike 1.5 inches and loved it though. He was like 5'1" Now he flat foots instead of tippy toes at stops. I think you will like a 1-2" drop anything else is a pain to deal with. Just remember when you lower it , get to know the bike again it will change the fell and the setup of the bike.

Tweety, I never remember to do it, but will you reference my name in your CP for when you signed up? It doesn't really matter I guess. . there's a reason people do it, but I can't remember. I've got probably 10 right now and show zero.

Another way is to alter the rear sub-frame. All the new sport bikes have the rear set up high like an MX racer, for 10 inches of rear wheel movement. Except most sport bikes only move 5 inches or less. Could be as simple as making a new lower link on the rear sub-frame. Send a pm to speeedwerk on this forum. They may have done something like this.

Just get a set of rear shock adjustable dog bones so you can lower it a 1" or 2"... then just lower the front by sliding the forks up farther in the triple clamp... but it will change the attitude of the bike...

I think that is all I will need. I've never riden this bike. I'm a very new rider :leaving:

Would this be more of an option that a shop will need to do?
Is this what they mean by dailing in a Bike to the rider? :willy:

Several people have suggested this :yesnod:.

All in all I want the safest option available, even if it cost more

Get the bogbone / lowering linkage for the rear . And raise the fork tubes up in the triples . We gained about 1 1/2 inches on my wifes bike . You can also adjust the sag for your weight as it we be set way to firm for someone your size . I did this on a friends bike and she gained about 1/2 inch just getting set to her light weight.. First set the sag and see what you need to gain .You may only need an inch after. I'm sure thier is someone in your area that could help you with the sag , it shouldn't cost you anything & takes 15 - 20 minutes to do . Good luck and any other questions post up we all need answers . :twfrox:

Ok here it is!
My wife is the 5'2".
She rides an 03 GSXR 600.

I lowered the front forks in the triple clamps. 1".
Installed lowering rear shock links (dog bones)
Shaved the seat.

I used links with three hole settings.
1st hole is stock
2ed hole is 1 1/2"
3ed hole is about 3" Pro Street or Drag race lowered.

As long as you lower the front and rear evenly.
You wont have any ill effects on the handling until your at close to race speed.

You will drag on some stuff like speed bumps etc.
As you ridding ability increases you will drag the pegs and exhaust can easily.
Pegs no big deal, can dragging is a big no no.

I am about 175lb's and can ride the bike lowered.
I only worry about it just short of knee down speed.

This is the lowered bike and my wife!

:rofl3: That's similar to what I was going to say.

Tweety,
I would say that Jeeps gives sound advice, plus, his wife is your size so that should give you a great idea of what to do. But you already said that. If you or your guy aren't capable of performing the work yourselves, then you can most likely find someone in a group of riders who can do the work for you and save on shop fees. Good luck.
