As you all seen me talk about, here, I am selling my 9R and was planning on getting a chopper.

Well the 9R is still up for sale with a few possible buyers circling around it. I gathered up a few dollars and order my new chopper.

I checked out quite a few manufactures and a few acutal chopper shops. However, after doing some research I found out a few things. You can't finance and have a hard time getting insurance on "assembled bikes". Which alot of the chopper shop bikes are. So I knew I was going to have to get a manufactured bike. So after checking out alot of brands I found I like the Big Dog Chopper the most. So I ordered a 2006!

Its complete with everything, S&S full polish 117 C.I. ( about 1917cc's)twin, LED blinkers and tail lights, right side drive, Baker 6 speed tranny, custom CNC wheels, 250 x 18" rear, and the 21" front, self eliminating blinkers, LED tach, stainless steel braided brake lines, the works... It is reported to put down about 120 hp at the rear and 100-110 #'s of torque.

I knew I didn't want a bright color so I was down to silver or black. I wasn't sure if the silver would wash out the chrome. Almost all the silver bikes I seen all had massive amounts of other colors on the tins. Black flames or whatever. But I don't know what I want in that respect so I was going to order just paint, with no airbrushing. So I figured I'd just go with classic, never out of style, and always sexy gloss black. Plus in the future, when I can speak face to face with the airbrusher, I can maybe get a silver ghost flame on the tank and rear fender.

I'm beyond excited! Like... :willy: But it won't be ready till March. Which will give me time to sell my 9R and come up with some more money to put down.

Here is a 2005. There are a few differences. The biggest being that my motor will be a full polish which that one isn't, slighty different angle on the bars, and a few others... but nothing that you can see from these pics.

Please leave the rdiacule to yourself. I'm sick of hearing it and will start considering it as a personal attack upon me. That goes to those select few that have continued to do it from day one. This thread is for those with open minds and those that have voiced interest in my new bike.

Will the 2006 model have a rear seat available? i thought your wife wanted to ride with you. The black looks good, but it needs something to set it off a little more like a graphic or ghost flame on the tank. :2cents: Looks good GM!

Actually I will have to buy the rear seat and pegs. The rear seat has like 8 suction cups and sticks to the rear fender. It is quite a bit larger than the sportbike seat and way more comfortable. Just sold seperately and removeable...that way it makes it look cooler when I ride alone!

:yikes: I hope suction cups stick well. I know what you mean...I never had my rear seat on the SV...the solo cowl was on 99% of the time.

Thanks for posting. I think the bike looks good and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. But please, find a helmet that you can wear on that bike. I've always found it difficult to find a helmet that would look right while riding a cruiser or chopper, but it is still important to protect your head. Granted, you won't be riding this bike the way you rode the sport bike, which will reduce your risk, but there is nothing you can do about the idiots in cages who just can't seem to see you. Be sure to post pics of your bike when you get it in the spring. Congrats on your purchase, and be safe. Oh, I'll try to find a link to a guy that will airbrush your tank and fender. You just have to mail them to him and then he will do the work and mail it back. He does excellent work.

I like your pic's better than the Big Dog's site. It gives a better view instead of the glamour shots they have.

It sucks you have to wait on it but, you get it the way you want it. On that note. Does Big Dog let you get custom exhaust, wheels and other stuff on order?
If not, make sure you get all your extra stuff with the purchase so you can include it with the loan. :2cents:

I'm going to get the passenger stuff with the bike and installed on it when it's new. As far as custom wheels and stuff... I can get them to paint the tins, if I want. They charge about $2200+ for it. I don't have to add that on, if I want it, till like November. So I still have time, if I choose to add that now.

On the helmet, Capt... you are sooooo right! You want something that is going to look good with that style, fit well, and yet offer some protection. I am thinking of getting a couple helmets. I know that I'm giong to get a modular helmet. A Nolan to be exact. They make the best one out on the market. WAY beyond the others like HJC and Shoei! Metal to metal clasps, better venting, DOT shell, completely removeable hyproallegenic liner, a really nice buckle clasp type thing instead of the strap eye loop style that we all have. Absolutely the best helmet I've ever seen. By far great function, in just a gloss black shell. Then I need something else, maybe more cruiser ish... tried on some 1/2s and other styles but not sure....

Gas...did you get to test ride this beauty first? Looks good. I'm not big on a huge stretched raked out front end. That one doesn't seem to overdue it.

I've always thought about the same thing with helmets and cruisers. I love the protection from a full face but they usually look goofy on cruisers. Let us know what you decide. :dthumb:

Those wheels are sharp. I've never ridden a bike like that, but I'm curious how they handle.
They handle like shiot in comparison to a Sport Bike!
I have owned and ridden a few cruisers. The Metrics handle the best. The HD's aren't that bad. The Choppers can be better or worse. It depend on what the stretch and rake is.

If you're going to post something about yourself online, you're going to get opinions. If you don't like what you hear, don't post something you know will get negative opinions in the first place. .02

Anyway, congrats on a nice bike. There's a Big Dog shop down the road from my house.

Likeing sport bikes and all I never really gave it much thought, But that is a good looking RC machine. You just dont see em' anymore.

J/kiddin G-man, The bike looks good. Not for me, but looks good. My cousin has one, He offered for me to ride it but I didnt even have an itch too. It also just looks good.
Best of luck with it. The only thing I can say that you might not have heard is thoes bikes are a work out. Not on the open road but everything else is a chore. Parking, cleaning, Turning, Trannies #1 problem, Clutch, #2 problem. and His list went on and on. He said it isnt enjoyable to get it out. It is a chalange to use all of the time and his going to get another sportbike or something that requires lees to just jump on and go. He said finds the truck more now that he bought it than he ever did just because of its bulkyness. I myself wouldnt want thoes hastles. :2cents:
