Some of you may know that my girl passed the MSF course (to my surprise). i told her I don't want her to get a bike because people don't know how to drive out here. The other day we went and sized bike for her (just for the hell of it). She sat on a '06 ninja 250 and i liked the way it fit her. 3200 isn't bad of a price either. But she didn't like the styling too much(can't really blame her, but i've seen worse). I simply told her that if she wants a bike, a 250 is the only thing I'd let her get.

Well three days ago, I came across a '01 ninja 250 4 sale in Vegas for 2K even. Now there is really no difference between the 01 and 06, styling and performance wise. Here's the ad: http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/mcy/141681562.html So next Sunday we will be checking it out. i've already talked to the owner and she said i could test ride it. i guess i get excited about the idea of me and my girl riding together and my hands won't be killing me because she's on her own bike. There is definately more to come...

I think i'll be behind her most of the time just to watch how she rides it and if some cage acts stupid it'll hit me and not her. But this'll be after riding in the parking lots for a while.
that will last a few minutes until you get pissed off, then you will make the break at full throttle around her.

The decision for me? Well...I know it would make her happy. Plus it would be awesome to ride w/ her. I know I can control when she goes riding. She will NOT go by herself. I will be there to teach her. I stopped by the MSF course while she was riding and it looked like she was getting the hang of it. That and I can't stand riding double. My hands kill me when i'm stopping.

Plus i'd rather let her get one now while all the MSF stuff is still in her head.

Wow, I don't agree with what you guys are doing at all. You sound like some of the people I have met in the middle east. You guys are a little too protective. What's next you are going to make your women walk behind you at all times. I let my girl do whatever she wants, that is the way I lead my life, so why should I stop her. If they are willing to take the risk, let them, because you are doing the same thing. Well maybe except for the JK, riding pregnant isn't the smartest thing in the world.

I also don't agree with riding with them in the beginning. It makes people really nervous to be watched, especially by the ones they love.

You of all people should know the risks of riding. Now it's a case by case basis. You have to know your girl, then decide. My girl doesn't even know how to use a stick. She got the hang of it a lil at the MSF course, but not downshifting, engine braking and all that. Everything else she wants to do
? Fine, i'll let her. But when there's a chance of the one i love getting injured or killed, of course i'm gonna step in, and warn her. you can ask her, i'm not controlling at all, but this is different. this is about my 5'3" 100 lbs girlfriend who doesn't know how to use a stick, who can't drive all that well, who speeds when she does, who's hit a jack in the Box sign, a dupmster, and a pole at a gas station. So am i controlling? No. Am i worried? you bet your ass!

It's not a case by case basis, it doesn't matter how bad a driver or how good a driver you are, just watch that video of that girl with the camera on her head when that car slides in front of her. Stopping her from riding because it is unsafe out there, but allowing yourself to take those risks is just chauvinism at it's finest. If she is set on getting out there, then you shouldn't stop her.

It's good to be worried, it's bad to control what she wants to do. She is going about it the right way. She is getting educated and she has you to help her out along the way. You know how envious some guys are of people like you who's girls actively pursue something their men love. You should embrace it. Hell I am, my girl won't even sit on my bike alone while it is sitting still with no key in it, she is so scared of it. Of course I am nowhere near ready to even begin to think of riding double, so it doesn't really matter yet.

Chauvinism my ass. I've seen my girl react to situations before. Hell, she ran into the back of me when she was following me and I had to stop short. She would've hit me dead on if I didn't swerve to the right to avoid hitting the guy in front of me. I know my reactions are usually good. A situaton could come up and she might lock her front wheel or something. That's why I believe it is case by case. In this case, my girl doesn't have the best reactions.

Bottom line is that she is interested in riding and all i'm doing is being real with her. i'm not gonna tell her there's nothing to worry about on the road. I'm not trying to scare her, but I am not one to sugar coat something like this. She wants to ride, i'm gonna take her to look at the bike, and if she wants it, she can have it. But with it she will get someone that will teach her as much as he knows about riding. She'll also get a worried B/F.
