Whats the best lock? Best Alarm? what do you use?

We talked about this here and there in other threads, but never really in depth that I can recall or find in a search.

I currently don't use anything on my bike so I'd like to hear everyone's responses as well.
I try to remember to pull the key! Hey, when you're just starting out that can be hard to learn. I'd also liek to knwo what other's use though, because when I get a decent bike, I'd like to hang onto it. Also, would an alarm lower insurance costs like it does on cars?
I don't use anything in my garage but when I'm out and about I may at times use a disclock!

Yeah same here..

**ADVICE FOR DISC LOCK USERS***
especially the first few times... carry a golf ball place tab, those little plastic things they put on the putting greens to keep their place, with your disc lock. When you put it on, put the plastic thing in your igniton so you can't get your key in w/o removing it. You will be glad when you get back 3 hours later and go to put your key in and take off...

thats a little handy reminder, good idea..!! provided you dont push that little plastic thing down in ur iginition to hard right.... that could suck ;)
Hehe, yeah... I just suggest those because they seem to work well, it stays in the end of the disc lock until ya need it... so you go to put your key in that..."oh look, my golf thing" and remember to stick it in your ignition...
My disc lock came with a little green thing to put in the igntion...I always use that if I use the disc lock!!
I chain it to the wall in the garage, I use a krytonite lock when out, and I designed an electronic shut off. If you can unlock it and get it started it will run about 30 seconds and shut off, just about enough time to get out into traffic...
I just lock the steering.
We have a few of these around too if any ones interesting in buying.

all u have to do is fabricate alittle seat on the back of ur kat, and u can bring one of those beasts along with you wherever u go. ;)

after seeing that pen trick with the lock awhile back...definately makes me alittle leary to say the least.

I like those alarms, scorpions i believe, and probably others as well, that have the pager on them that goes off if the bike alarm is tripped. but whats the range on those pagers.?
I don't use any on mine. I'm very particular about where I park my bike though. It's in the garage when at home. At work, there is motorcycle parking available at the top of the lot. I only use it for errands around town if I will be able to immediately see it from whatever store I go into. It's never left in a huge crowded parking lot and it's never parked downtown.

i wish they'd get motorcycle parking at our work garage as well, they've been talking about it, and there's enuff bikes there to warrant it for sure. But at this point we just make our own spaces and keep them out in the open with the guards can see them. better than nothing I guess.
I getting a sticket made that says"Touching this motorcycle is not worth your life".
I just lock it and when out and about try to park it in an area with lots of foot traffic and or lights. Not in an area where someone would have time to screw with it before being seen. As for at home in the garage, it's in the garage and if you break into my garage, I will hear you and withing seconds you will be looking down the barrel of my .45 or my 12 guage...depending on the mood I'm in!!!!
Plain and Simple...if someone wants your bike, they're gonna get it. It only takes 2 guys and 30 seconds to lift a bike into the back of a truck and take off. If there's a lock, there's someone out there that can pick it. Unfortunately that's just how it is. But you can help eliminate some of these by parking in well-lit areas, parking in the front of buildings etc. Just be careful out there...
Me...its fulling insured and I will get anouther if needs to.
Check out TWO and Bike and those other British mags, they ALWAYS have stuff about security in em.. fancy stuff, all that datatag BS and whatnot. I guess bikes get stolen a LOT more over there, and they get a lot more off their ins. bill for having a good setup as well. Hidden GPS locator chips perhaps?
