I prefer the K&N for the better air flow, better filtration, and the ease of just taking it out and cleaning it!

What do you think and/or what do you use?

Do you go for old faithfull the OE air filter... truck down to the dealer and pay $22 or whatever every year for a new one...or what?

And then keep it some more :)

Seriously - no matter what you do, you're going to end up with less power running a K&N on most modern sportbikes. They are more restrictive than the stock filter, which means less air, which means less power. When bikes used to come with really restrictive paper filters, K&N was better ... it's just not so any more.

In our experience on the dyno, K&Ns tend to cause a hp loss. They are good because they are re-usable, but we find that stock cheapo filters are the best way to go.
Exactly. Thats what keeping a K&N off my SV. Is the K&N effective with motor work or no?

My buddy told me the same thing, so he went with the BMC race filter, and I stuck with my K&N, I don't know if its worth spending the money to switch and find out the difference for the SV. Has anyone ever tried the BMC race filter in the SV?

On the SV the K&N will cost you about 2hp vs. a stock filter. You won't see any real gain with the BMC, but at least you don't lose anything.

As for K&Ns working with "built" motors ... it's worse. Again, K&N filters are more restrictive than stock filters. A motor that needs even more air than a stock one is going to suffocate - the K&N isn't even allowing enough air to flow through for the stock motor.

Damn. Anyone wanna buy a K&N for an 04 R6 ? Hey Jeeps, you got your GSXR 50 back? Didn't it get stolen?
Yea
Its back and not much worse for ware.
It was stored for three months and sold.
The guy that bought it gave it to his little brother for BD, which got caught ridding it the first day out. :bslap:

Actually a freshly oiled K&N will be more restrictive. BUT after the oil has evaporated (you need to run it for about 100 miles) you will see an HP gain. There are reams of imperical data out there. I hear the Acell Kool Blues are good filters also.
