For an 05 gixxer 600...
This will be my first time changing my oil. I need to go buy some which one would i need?

Pippi is right, Amsoil. Thats what I have used since my first oil change. I use Full Synthetic, but not sure if you are supposed to on a brand new bike or what. Might want to ask Captain Post WHore (Gas Man).

But go with Amsoil and then a K&N oil filter

This guy from the gixxer forum said he ran regular blend until 2k then went full sythentic

Oil is Oil who cares! Just use the right weight recommended for for your 05 Gixxer.

XRD, if this is your 500 mile service, then you have put enough miles on the bike to go full synthetic. I waited until the 5,000 mile service, then switched the Kat over to Mobil1 synthetic. It keeps the internal temp. down, and free's up some of the friction that conventional oil can't overcome. This means a little more power for the price of an oil change. My buddy is the service tech for the Suzuki shop back home, and he did the service on my bike after the dealer did the 500 mile service. You CAN purchase Mobil1 at Wally World. Hope this gives you some insight....

Im actually gonna go with some of that Chevron DELO 15w40, which has been highly recommended! 6.92 for a Gallon too!

I put in Castrol R4 fully synthetic after my 600 mile and have been using it since...no problems. I use Castrol in my truck and now the bikey. :dthumb:

Amsoil is a full syn..... let me state this... this is a pure :2cents: subject.... as in everybody is going to give you their :2cents: but at the end of the day you have to spend YOUR money!

I wouldn't use a full syn on a new bike till after at least 5K.... you want to make sure the piston rings seat correctly. I know I've heard that this happens within the first 10 miles or somin crazy but might as well play it safe. This is what I did on my 9R and it has about 14K on it now...

Unless you are all out racer normal dino oil will work fine for you.
www.redlineoil.com one of few synthetic oils to use expensive Poly ester based synthetic stock for their oils. Redline flash point on 10/30 over 527 degrees :yikes: Using Redline your bikes motor would never fail from oil failure. Your bike would never reach 527 degree oil temp unless your cooling system failed.

OK heres the verdict I put Valvoline 10w-40 Synthetic Blend after 3k I'll go full synthetic.

Get out your owners manual and read the section on oil. It will tell you exactly what to buy and what to look for on the label. I am able to put Pennz 10W40 in the Bee, and I buy Fram filters for under $5.00 each. But I also change my oil every 4-6 weeks or 1500 miles. That means we are due again Snakemann!!

What exactly is the point or what good does it do to change the oil ever 4-6 weeks or 1500 miles? The stuff is designed to last much longer and provide full protection. Seems like overkill and waste of $$$ to me. I mena hell if your gonna do it that often why not just do it before each ride. :screwy:

Just like people who change the oil in their cars every 1500 or 2000 miles. At work we have done tests that ran the same oil for 8000+ miles and could have easily run longer and still protected.

Why do you take a bath more than once a week? To keep clean?? An oil change is cheap, engine damage ain't...For normal driving, I would go with the 2 to 3K between changes. But if you are driving 20 to 30 miles at 100+ when you are out, you are breaking the oil down much faster and I will error on the side of clean oil. Also, when you live in areas of high humidity, you are fighting moisture. An oil/filter change is the best maintenance for longevity for any internal combustion engine, so why take chances.
