May, wife rearend in my 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee, pushed her into stopped car in front of her. Jeep had front and rear damage. Took driver at falts insurance Safeco one month to look at Jeep  Jeep also had mechanical damage from accident. Since Safeco dragged its feet. I took Jeep into local dealership to have mechanical looked at and fixed. Told service writer if Jeep has serious problems such as bent frame do no repairs.
$4200 later Jeep dealership repaired suspension bent a arm, also repaired heater vent linkage which required dash removal. Also tacked on replacement of heat core, water pump few other things to run their bill up. Since in the end insurance would be paying the bill.
Safeco claims guy came in with $2600 body repair estimate. Aug, wife takes Jeep into body shop for repairs. New estimate $3600 for body work. As body shop starts repairs, finds bent frame and bent tie rods. $7000 just to fix frame and suspension.
WTF Jeep dealership didnot find bent frame or other bent suspension parts  Dealership should have found bent frame? I figure since I told dealership donot repair if major damage, they over looked major damage to get paid $4200 bill
Todate, Safeco has not paid me back any of $4200 bill from dealership.
What would you ask from dealership? I am thinking of complete refund of $4200, since I would not have had repairs done with bent frame.
Or after Jeep is repaired in body shop, have dealership take Jeep and give me huge discount on new Jeep?

:luck: With all that. I would be pizzed also. I hat insurance claims. :cursin:
:withstupi But in retro sight... I would have just rented a car and left the Jeep alone for the insurance company to fix. Then most likely, at least I do and many others, have rental coverage while the vechicle is in the shop.

Furthermore, why wasn't the Jeep at a collision ship anyway?

Looking at body damage, you could hardly tell Jeep had been hit. Major impact hit trailer hitch, tow hooks in front bent from hitting car in front.
Jeep was able to drive away from accident. Few days later coolent started leaking from water pump area. After getting run around from Safeco, decided to take into dealership for mechanical repairs only. Since other driver was at fault, In the end I would get paid back for repairs :dthumb:
Safeco has been worst insurance company have ever dealt with  Safeco sent check for $2800 on $4200 repair bill  Will not be cashing that $2800 check :dthumb:
What has me pissed, Dealership charged $1200 for suspension repairs, then another $3000 for other repairs. Knowing I would not have paid $4200 in repairs, on car with bent frame  More than likely Jeep would have been a totaled.
After getting Jeep back from dealership, seemed to drive just fine
Dealership gambled I would not find out about bent frame :2cents:

I would file a civil suit against the person who rear-ended your wife for the value of the damaged vehicle so it can be replaced. I would not speak to anyone from insurance company, period. You are under no obligation to deal with them. If they choose to represent their customer, let them do it in court.

You HAD three ways you could have gone. You could have had the car towed to the residence of the guy who hit you, and sue for damages. You could have taken the car to your repair shop, you pay to have the car repaired and sue the guy who hit you for the bill. And finally, you could deal with his insurance company to get the car fixed/replaced and deal with the typical BS insurance companies put you through.

You have a tremendous mess now because you had a repair shop start working on a car that later went to another shop. These two shops can now accuse each other of aggravating the damages. At least you will probably be out your out-of-pocket. You should have stayed out of it, rented a car, and let your attorneys handle it.

Jeep dealership doesnot do body work. Reason for taking Jeep to dealership, find out what mechanical repairs are needed from accident.
Paid dealership $4200 after dealership gave clean bill of health on Jeep. If dealship was honest and told me Jeep had bent frame, would have told Safeco come pickup your Jeep.
California small claims court limit $5000.00 I knew worst case would have to file small claims case against driver to get my money back.
Safeco has not balked at paying $12K to body shop for repairs  Fun will start when body shop completes repairs, I am not accepting auto with bent frame damage ;)
Tuesday or Wednesday will head over to dealership with bent frame bill, ask about their suspension man's work
Who knows maybe dealership will refund my money
Tring to work out repairs without help of Attorneys, just want what was damaged made right

Jetski.. but most body shops will do the mechanical repairs as well. And if not they sub-contract it out with dealerships. Therefor keeping the bill all at one company.....

Wish I knew this information few months ago :yesnod: Never had accident before requiring body and mechanical repairs.
Current body shop is doing bent frame, suspension repair. Which I suspect has been sub-contracted.

I'm betting on the shops calling B.S. on the other. :luck:
Going to be hard for dealership to call it BS. Safeco sent over inspector when body shop told them about bent frame damage. $7K in suspension repairs, I would call major :yikes:

:withstupi The old days of a frame being bent causing the vechicle to drive sideways are long gone... using lasers and laser levels.... a bent frame is no biggie anymore.

you've never heard of Safeco Field, where the Seattle Mariners play? Safeco is a west coast based insurance company. I learned many years ago that if someone hits my vehicle, It sits where it was towed to. I contact an attorney and file a civil suit against the driver immediately for damages. The Insurance Company didn't hit me, they did. I am looking to the driver for my money for repairs, etc. I will not speak to anyone from an insurance company before the paperwork is filed.

Many times the Insurance company will want to settle quickly with "quickie" repairs and get you to sign paperwork that does not require their client to accept/admit blame or responsibility. This happens frequently in jurisdictions where police do not usually issue tickets in fender benders without injuries.

Once you sign, any further damage to car or injury to you that is found later, they will argue forever that you accepted the settlement and they will try to not pay.

I want them to admit/accept responsibility. I want it on the public record. That is why I file the suit. It is amazing how attentive the insurance company becomes when they can't speak to you or your attorney until after the civil suit is filed. There is no run around, no BS, and they become very accomodating in order to settle with you to your satisfaction,to get the civil action dropped.

It usually costs about $ 200.00 to file a suit, which you will get back in the settlement, once you have their attention. And you should never deal with an insurance company in an accident without an attorney, They use them against you. So you can also collect reasonable attorney's fees.

I stand corrected...I have indeed heard of this Safeco. But anyway they sound like F'ers....but then again, don't all insurance co's?

That's why you need an attorney. The insurance company attorneys wrote the paperwork they want you to sign. Maybe 10 % of people could read the paperwork and understand it. They are counting on you being confused and not wanting a bunch of hassle so they can get you to agree to something in their best interest. I hate to sound like a commercial, but you need someone to look after your interests.

I'm not saying to get a lawyer and sue for 100 trillion billion over a fender bender you walk away from. I'm saying to spend the $500.00 to get an attorney to read/handle the paperwork and keep you from getting ripped. They will pay a reasonable amount for an attorney to settle and keep it out of court, and hopefully, you will get your repairs/replacement so you can get back to where you were before the accident.

You get unauthorized repairs done and now you cry about it? I know you can't type or understand the english language but are you really this stupid? Besides, you constantly brag about how "well off" you are, so suck it up. You made the decision to get the repairs, stop your whining. :loser:
