I have a slip-on, K&N, and a PC3. Everything else performance wise is stock. What would your next performance mod be? I'm probably asking this because my buddy just got an 04 Gix 1000. I know I will never be able to keep up with him but I'd figure it wouldn't hurt me to ask what I can do for more hp. TIA

It's an 04 R6... and please hold the "Get a Kawi or Suzuki" or anything like that. :dthumb:

Well I have a timing advancer that I've been meaning to put on but haven't yet!!

The Gix 1k should get a timing advancer plug in thing.... Twisty posted it up a few times... a great and SUPER EASY mod!!

Dont doubt your R6 man, I had no problem schooling some track whores on the big 1000s on my R6 this weekend. With your R6 you can gas on much quicker than those turkeys with big HP. By the way I was doing it on a bent rim. Anyway go for suspension, get a shock or some springs for the forks. Building HP will not let you run with your friend, you have to make up time in the corners.

Yeah, you're right. When we got to Valley of Fire he was way behind me. I'll wait until he gets used to his bike before I brag or anything though. By the time he gets use to it I'll be even more use to mine! How hard is it to install fork springs? What's the main reason for doing so, cuz I don't have a problem now. I'm not on the track at all (hope to be this year) and always ride on the street. I'm pretty much askin you to "sell" me fork springs.

Well if your not having a problem, I would have "performace shop" set you suspension for your weight. The might tell you that you need spring for the setup in that case I would do it. I would check out the R6 board or like racetech.com maybe even Traxxion Dynamics website to find the spring rate for your weight.

Im not trying to sell you anything but a hooked up suspension is the way to go. For a grand you might get 7-10hp but a grand in the suspension and the thing will be on rails in the twisties.
:withstupi Get the stock suspension dialed in first. Then worry about upgrading it.
Do you have gear changes?
This will help out of the hole or even more power out of the corners.
2 or 3 teeth between the front and rear wont kill the top to bad but, it will give it wicked pulling power.
Just don't go to far with it. :2cents:

Yep, it's been proven before (from WAY back in the day) that having a good suspension setup is better than adding HP. Now, that being said, you get the proper suspension setup for your weight/riding style and then adding HP will be even better. The HP is no good if you can't use it properly and you need to be able to get through the corners with ease. When you are ready for more HP, I'd also look at a full exhaust system as it will do more for the bike than just a slip-on.

You said you have a slip on.Does a r6 have a catalytic converter like the r1 has.I thought all new bikes had 'em..
If so you might want the headers to go with your slip ons...

I don't know about the converter. the header looks like straight pipes if you ask me. Considering I have a slip-on, could the slip-on be welded to the header rather than buying a muffler I don't need? that way i could save money just by buying the header. I've never heard of buying a header seperately though...then again I haven't looked into it.

Now I will say this... I agree with Twisty on the suspension is always a good place to spend money!

But it sounds like his posts are a advertisement for the power lacking Ducs!! :D

The converter on my bike is in the Y-pipe that the mufflers or slip-ons fit too.
I don't know what brand slip-on you have but you should be able to buy just the header that the slip-on fits on..But you need to stay with the same brand so it fits proper....Your slip-ons will fit that brands header just like it fits your stock exhaust now...

Word, i got a GYT-R slip-on. I'll have to ask the dealer if they sell the header alone because they don't on the website. Thanks.
