You're out riding doing your thing like always, whether you're just in daily commute to work and back, riding down to the store, hitting some twisties, or full throttle getting your speed need fulfilled..what's in the back of your mind the most...?

animals and gravel for me...i ride alot at night, and on back roads looking for twisties to practice on..and especially with deer season coming up..there's nothing like flying along down a country road down the highway and having anything from a fox or 'possum, or deer lurking on the side of the road just waiting for his death wish to come true!!!

and gravel/wet leaves keeps my mind occupied as well when im coming up on a tight corner or turn.

Biggest scare thus far was riding @ the Gap with Pippi and coming around the corner to find a huge gas tanker taking up all lanes. Pippi squeeked by and I had to ride into the ditch to prevent being taken out or run over. Believe me you would lay some bricks in your pants if you came around the corner to find Mr. Semi taking up all pavement. Just ask Pip!

why in the world do trucks even try to go on this road..is it some kinda ego thing or just to piss off the riders who wanna have some fun??!!

oh yeah, that would definatley suck seeing that beast heading right for you  In fact trucks in general scare me when ur passing them and they just start inching over into your lane!!!

Hey Matt,
Check out this site:

And specifically this section of the site:

http://www.tailofthedragon.com/dragon_trucks.html

yeah I check out the site from time to time, thanks for the link about the trucks though.. did you see this??

"Still others are directed on routes by their dispatchers. This is the one that upsets us."

WTF kinda dispatcher who is sending their drivers down to this area wouldnt know to have them avoid it. I mean really..whether you're from a far away terminal or not this place is famous all over the country!! yeah, i'd be pissed off too!!!

riding down at gap, do you enounter these trucks so much that its makes it difficult to enjoy the ride, or are they not all that much trouble normally to deal with?

Its hard to describe but when you make the Gap trip you will understand. The route in is a nice easy sweeping flat road along the river. Before you begin to go back up the hills there is a boat launch which Semis could possibly turn around in and seek alternate route (if they actually knew how tight the Gap is). Otherwise once they begin their way up the hills it gets far too tight and there is no turning back. So all they can do is go forward. I heard some trucks it takes hours to get all the way through. After Pippi and I's run in I understand everyone frustration with these semis taking up all lanes +. However the Gap is fun to run through a couple times a day, otherwise there are plenty of good roads and twisties to ride in the area. :redmc:

sweet..so u ride the dragon a few times a day, then go out and explore!! sounds like a plan!!!

I cant imagine the CB chatter that goes on with trucks trying to get thru those twisties

Ah man I was riding to Mid-Ohio and a damn chicken hawk almost took my head off. It was a big a$$ hawk and it flew out of the tree from nowhere. I thought it was taking off but it just flew right across my line on the freeway. I ducked, no pun intended, but I don't know how close I actually came to having it take my head off. Dyno was riding behind me and saw the whole thing. All I could say after was "Did you see the size of that chicken?"

glad im not the only one then  ..but mine was a real chicken, atleast yours could fly outta the way..

Colorado DOT says there were 24,678 animal-vehicle collisions in the state from 1993-2003. Twenty-three people were killed, but it didn't state how many accidents involved motorcycles.
i would imagine it would have to be alot dont you think? especially being in colorado with all the mountains, etc. I saw some stats some where, but I'll have to try and find them, that shows more indepth info on this..

but 23 people killed does seem kinda low to me though...but when you include the occasional squirrel vs a deer, it makes alittle more sense I guess.

hitting any animal on a bike is enuff to make me pull over and take a breather for a few minutes!! provided im not already laying on it..
