WTF kinda dispatcher who is sending their drivers down to this area wouldnt know to have them avoid it. I mean really..whether you're from a far away terminal or not this place is famous all over the country!! yeah, i'd be pissed off too!!! :rant:
riding down at gap, do you enounter these trucks so much that its makes it difficult to enjoy the ride, or are they not all that much trouble normally to deal with?

You know, I read on the site about the two people who live close by will sometimes escort a stray truck through (after he made the mistake of getting on), but I don't understand why they don't just put up a sign. The site says that Tenn has finally erected a sign, but it just says, Consider alternate route. It should say, Do NOT take this road and it should be placed where trucks have a chance to turn around. The "consider" sign has one turn off just after the sign, but the road isn't that tight yet and truckers don't believe it will be that bad. At the last turn-off, there should be a large, bright sign that says, "trucks NOT permitted, exit NOW. Last chance"

something else that freaks me out from time to time..ever since that chicken truck incident..is getting smacked in the head or chest by a bird!!! it doesnt happen to often, but trust me when it does, it scares the shiet outta you. 
Its hard to describe but when you make the Gap trip you will understand. The route in is a nice easy sweeping flat road along the river. Before you begin to go back up the hills there is a boat launch which Semis could possibly turn around in and seek alternate route (if they actually knew how tight the Gap is). Otherwise once they begin their way up the hills it gets far too tight and there is no turning back. So all they can do is go forward. I heard some trucks it takes hours to get all the way through. After Pippi and I's run in I understand everyone frustration with these semis taking up all lanes +. However the Gap is fun to run through a couple times a day, otherwise there are plenty of good roads and twisties to ride in the area. :redmc:Need4Speed750 said:why in the world do trucks even try to go on this road..is it some kinda ego thing or just to piss off the riders who wanna have some fun??!!

Yeah, Blue Ridge parkway and the Cherehola (sp?) skyway are also relatively close right? I hear those are some sweet ass rides too.
Ah man I was riding to Mid-Ohio and a damn chicken hawk almost took my head off. It was a big a$$ hawk and it flew out of the tree from nowhere. I thought it was taking off but it just flew right across my line on the freeway. I ducked, no pun intended, but I don't know how close I actually came to having it take my head off. Dyno was riding behind me and saw the whole thing. Little late but...Just F-ing crashing scares me. How the h311 am I going to come home and explain it to Carrie I just wrecked my bike. :bash: If I didn't hurt myself, tell her, I am sure to be going to the hospital then.
And N4S..about riding the dragon a few times and then going exploring...I just want to ride it. Been down there before in the area but never on the dragon. I just want to ride it all day. :dthumb:

Colorado DOT says there were 24,678 animal-vehicle collisions in the state from 1993-2003. Twenty-three people were killed, but it didn't state how many accidents involved motorcycles.

i would imagine it would have to be alot dont you think? especially being in colorado with all the mountains,etc. I saw some stats some where, but I'll have to try and find them, that shows more indepth info on this..No Worries said:

hitting any animal on a bike is enuff to make me pull over and take a breather for a few minutes!! provided im not already laying on it..

I would say most of that 23 is probably motorcycles too. When auto drivers die due to an animal, usually there isn't an actual collision, its the evasive manuevers they attempt that result in the crash/fatality, and might not fall into this category. Those that just suck it up and smash it straight on usually end up fine(in cars that is).
Local man and women out here were both killed in a deer/bike crash in August.

those harley pics are exaclty why i hate riding with em in the twistys... they can lean em till they scrape... but they are still going half or less the speed of me, plus like that pic shows.. even if they HAVE to turn harder.. they cant...ive seen two harleys in the ditch... and one off the side the mountain because of that......at least with a sportbike the bikes limits exceed your own... couldnt own a bike that had such low capabilities that i exceeded the bikes limits on a bad day.
