I know its sort of a newb question, so move it there if you have to, but I am curious to know what you guys cruising RPM is. When I hit the usual crusing speed around 50mph, Its usually 4th gear between 5-7k, and more closer to 5k. Its just that the gear band is so much more than a car, thats why I wonder. The last thing I want is to blow my engine because I am crusing at too high of an RPM, but I think I am okay. So, how do you guys roll? :ffedback: :D

Take a look at the torque curve for your bike. For my old CBR, it looks like a profile of the Rocky Mountains. I usually cruise at 4k, which is part-way up to the peak at 8k. This gives a nice lunge when twisting the throttle. With the newer 600's torque peak at 11k, one would want to cruise at a higher rpm.

3500-4k... Nice cruising range, and ready to rocket out of anything if I need to.
Same for me.
It is kind of a sound thing. At 55 in sixth it is around 3500 to 4000 so even when I cruise around town I seem to find the gear that sounds correct.

Remember there is a break-in period on a new bike....

Yeah I read my mom, it says stay below 5k for the first 500 and I been staying below 55 mph. I also been varying my speed often and letting it idle before revving as it says. However, the dealer said since I got the 5 year warranty I can be a little more flexible, but I am pretending I didn't hear what he said.

The day I threw the rod bearing on my SV..I was riding with a guy on a 05 R1 Raven...it was his first day out on the new R1...man he was nuts on that bike, he was riding faster then the rest of us...and we were all really fast...but I guess he couldn't wait for a break in period. and all that time I was worried he was going to break his new R1..later on that day I litterly broke my SV.
