OK... so I'll be getting the new bike in March... and then I have wait for the weather to break to ride...

But for many of you know up here in Michigan they use salt. And it really doesn't get rinsed off till after a good rain.

Do you ride? Are you worried about the salt on the bike?

well i bought my bike around thanksgiving here in NY (long island) and obviously its winter time...lol

i dont think we use salt over here anymore though on the roads at least...mostly sand.

I ride whenever the temp is around 40 degrees at least....and I only go out for about 10-15 miles at a time for now.

When i get home though...i "mist and wipe" the bike with microfiber towels and clean her up...and clean the wheels as well.

If we get snow though and they put down some more sand...ill probably wait another week or snow and some rain to clear most of the crap up though.

Yeah I know... but is a good bike wash good enough after each salt dusted ride prior to a good rain?

I had a friend who went to school near Buffalo, New York. He said everyone had at least two cars. One was a "beater" car that they drove in the winter and the other was a nice summer car. He drove his winter car out here one winter and the brake pedal went to the floor. I had to replace all his rear brake lines which had rusted through from the salt. You'll just have to get a beater bike for the winter.

The salt will chew up your chane. It get's inside the rings and just destroys it.

Chane????

Yeah, I remember that Pickle. If you didn't have the yard problem, would you ride with the salt dust on the road?

So then once you get home and the bike cools down just wash her up?!?
Yep!
I pay special attention to the chain during the chitty months also. If its just a dry dust. I usually just go with a spray polish and wipe down. Especially on the chopper and all the shiny parts that water spot so easily.
