When had my airbox off there were two rubber tubes attached to some device that was screwed onto the airbox. I noticed the rubber was starting to crack and started looking at the rest of the hoses. None are really bad, but there are signs they getting old.

I squeezed the coolant hose and it didn't crack or make any noises, it seemed fine, but the some of the others are looking like they're on the way out.

2000 SV650S right? Are they the hoses into the air box? If so, there is not much to worry about. Just don't mess with them.
Coolant hoses may be another story. The only time I have had to replace them on any bike is when I pulled a duumas routine and nicked one with a packing knife/razor or on the race bike during a 122 degree ambient air race weekend. (another story)
I think the SV riders group or the TL riders group has the maintenance schedule on PDF as well as some of the approved micro fiche slides on PDF. Those should let you know when to replace them.

I would say the coolant hoses first... those little hoses hooked to the airbox probably go to the motor for crank case pressure or whatever....

But I have never changed the coolant hoses on a MC... think about a car... don't usually do those till like 50K or so... and they go thru a ton of abuse and idle time!

I just had this problem with my guzzi. Let me tell you, that was fun. For the most part (with a few exceptions of certin bikes) if its not fuel, coolent, or oil don't worry about it.

Your on the right track also. Look for the obvious like cracks and or swelling. If the vent hoses that you described were break off. About the worst thing to happen would be. Losing a little power due to losing pressure in the air box and see some steam from the hot oil in the motor. As for the fuel, oil and coolant hoses. Check your service manual or contact a service shop for recommendations of time/mileage.
The only motorcycle coolant hose I have replaced was on my 998 after the crash.

From everything I've seen coolant hoses seem to last for a good amount of time compaired to other hoses (hence I used one off of a GMC 2.5L for the oil line on the guzzi) But I have seen a few go out. Mainly on older, higher milage vehicles. It's not really something you'd find on a newer bike.......unless the hose was defective.

I do! PM is cheap...have you ever had a hose or belt break, or a tire go flat at a convenient time??...Hoses are cheap and easy to replace...I change mine when I flush and change the cooling system fluid...

When they blow up. :lol: I haven't replaced any yet cuz they all look good as far as corrosion and all that. But if I need to I will. I was wondering. Does anyone know if bike hoses are around the same price as car hoses? I was just wondering if they hiked up the price cuz it's for a MC.

Hose is hose...If the temp and pressure ratings are the same, does it matter? they probably all come from the same factory anyway

I agree that PM is cheap...maybe I just haven't kept a bike long enough to worry about it!

You know, it always amazes me how you can get in depth about some of the smallest things. Like the subject of oil. You can go all day on that one. :leaving:

Anyhow, your right, a hose is a hose. But the PM is a LOT cheaper milling a warped head.

:iagree: but only in recommended schedule. What ever that may be for the bike in question.
