Why pay more?

I have long wondered this.

What makes Ducati any better to command the higher price?

You could say they are better, but in what way?

The big 4 jap bikes are getting better all the time, and as far as I can see, it's not like Duc is beating them in anyway.

Styling isn't any better IMHO.

You could say they are more exclusive, but it's not like Ducs are rare on the streets.

With cars I can see the difference. Better build quality, better technology, better performance.

But it doesn't seem like there is any reason to pay for something that doesn't perform as well as the Gixxer or R1 etc etc

Not to mention that the Duc's have a horrible maintance routine. They are the sportbike version of HD.
The 999 is not that bad. A guy @ the track had one and said if you keep on you valve adjustments you should be ok. EVERY 8k miles!!!! TO HELL WITH THAT!!! They are the HD of sportbikes. Plus they use HEX heads for everything and those are hard to safety wire. Now the Aprillia Factory, thats a bike. Another guy @ the track has one. He has a Mille R and never has touched the motor in 10K race miles. Now that is a work horse.!!!!
most things italian are going to cost more and be alittle more on the prestige point of view..whether its clothes, food, travel, cars, and of course bikes. They are very good, very fast bikes, and tons of people swear by em, and will never own anything but a Duc. Peronsally, I think they are about the most uncomfortable bikes around, but thats just me.

This one I knew Twisty would agree with me on.

:puke: on Duc valve adjustments
:puke: on HD's

But yes, the Mille R, is not only a awesome looking bike  but is suppose to be fast and a damn nice :redmc: all around!
Did someone say 999?

I suppose the same could be said for a Porsche, Lexus, Inifiniti, you name it. I think a Duc has somewhat of a status symbol attached to it. They certainly aren't as prevalent as Jap bikes. Some folks just like all things Italian. :)
Hey that makes nice wallpaper Shan!

The same could be said about cloths. You can buy them at Bloomingdales or get the knock offs at Kmart. Its all a status someone wants to carry or show off with. :dthumb:

Duc riders will differ with u on that opinion though..trust me, I've asked one before why chooses to ride a Duc. I got into a "discussion" with him about how he thinks japanese bikes suck. :cursin:
They are essentially the Ferrari of motorcycles in all aspects. You may be able to go faster and cheaper, but it's still not a Ducati. The build quality IS better than jap bikes, and I own a jap bike. There's no mistaking a Ducati. . the 998s are one of the most prized bikes out there. The 999, although slowly, is becoming that way as well. There's no mistaking one when you see it on the street.

I'd take a 999 in a heartbeat. . in fact, if I could get back even close to what I put in my C5, I'd sell it and get a Duck.

Just like anything else, there will always be people that disagree. "Ferrari is overpriced, the maintenance is too much. I can make my Civic outrun them for a fraction of the cost." lol To each their own.

That thing is a work of art, pure and simple.
I rather have a REAL work of art the Aprilia. Much better built and it is a runner.
I'd rather have a Benelli Tornado Tre, but I'm not going to split hairs.

And I'd also rather have a Duc than an Aprila. Aprilas just don't do anything for me. The new Cafe racer ducs are badazz too.
Yeah people that can't spell Aprilia really shouldn't own one anyway......
can't

People that don't know basic grammar shouldn't correct others' spelling. I couldn't care less about how to spell the name of an aging two stroke crotch rocket. lol
ouch.
Wait till the "cube" is in production. Then we will talk. @ least Aprillia's aren't in the shop every week with at "muffler" bearing failure. ;) Its ok tho, Aprillia's are just the favored bike of "EVERY" mag that tested the twins this year, last, and year before that.
Thanks for correcting your post, Twisty. :dthumb:
Anything for my boy!!!

Call the Duc a piece of **** all you want. (I take it that's what you're trying to say?) Honestly, though, you sound just like the 19 year olds ClubSi that say Porsches, etc, are overpriced pieces of scrap metal.
