 Just wondering why do people who never own a bike before, would want a 1000cc bike for their first bike, is it a Macho thing or what? can someone please tell me why? :here:

I think it is more of an ignorance thing. Most people have no clue how difficult a motorcycle is to operate. Most think moving up in size on a bike is like moving from a 4 cylinder focus to a GT Mustang. They figure they can handle the extra power and speed, no problem. They don't realize that when the back starts sliding around, you can't just steer into it slide to a stop...or that you can't fall off of a bucket seat and get road rash.

So, unfortunately, most have to rash their own knees... :nonod:

I think its a Macho thing as well as mis-informed. Plus they think sense they are heavy or tall that they need a larger bike.

I started riding at a youg age, not as young as some but young. By the time I bought my first street bike at the ripe old age of 19 I had already owned 5 dirtbikes and 3 three wheelers. At 13 I was riding a suzuki 400 dirtbike then a YZ400. For the next few years I bounced around from one size and style to anouther. And when I was 16 I was already sneking out on my dads Yamaha 850 special fully dressed. Then at 19 I bought a Honda V65 Magna (vf1100)
to some. It was the fastest production bike at the time for that year. Never had one issue with it. Never dropped or anything. Next bike was a Honda CBR600f I swore against a bike that small but it was fun to ride. Now many years later after being off street bike for about 9 to 10 years I bought another bike. Yep, you guessed it a 1000, A FZ1000 at that.

To clear things up a little, I would not recomend it to anyone who has never rode at all!!!! I wouldnt even say a (R) 600 anything. I would always say a Cruiser or a 500cc sportbike or smaller. I dont believe a true greenhorn should be on a 600cc sportbike or larger to learn.

Natural selection works in mysterious ways :tt:

Some other reasons:
Size inadequacies

I'll be the Devil's advocate. For a first bike, the 1000cc Honda VTR Super Hawk is much more user friendly than the 600cc Yamaha R6. Since the major difference is engine size, the Hawk's engine has it's power right off idle. It's a terrific street bike, not a terrific race bike. Except for the lower seat height, the low RPM power is probably the main reason so many woman like cruisers.

But that's a bit different that getting a new GSXR 1K or 10R. Not alot but different.

And you may also be the one of few exceptions!

People just getting into riding just don't realize the power a 1000cc can produce. They have no clue what they are getting into. They will learn their lesson real quick.
Yes they do.
They saw a buddy go by their cage real fast on his 1000cc bike. Now they have to keep up.
