Im fairly new to the scene and wanna know what you guys think.
Before I had my bike I had the crappiest car on the planet (a 92 dodge daytona) I paid 2000 for it and put about 5000 into it cuz it kept breakin down. new engine...new tranny....another new tranny :flush: ..it was no good.
I had always noticed Bikes and thought they were the hottest things on the face of the earth. I drooled and stared (supposed to be watching the road). I went to some dealerships just to get close but never thought i would "actually" get one.. I really wanted one though.
Untill I read something on the net about getting your first bike. About how you have to start somewhere and no one can tell you what you want or dont want. If you wanna start riding.....and you want it bad enough.. then its up to you to make it a reality.. you have to start somewhere.
So I decided my wanting for a bike was bad enough that i NEEDED to get one  ....
Sold the car.....bought a 95 Ninja ZX9....Shes my only means of transportation...Im screwed when winter rolls around... But I dont care

Speed Is the drug. :chill: ...Riding's the fix......

yeah - i have always had a thing for bikes wether it be pushies of motos, for as long as i can remember.

but to answer the question, i decided i wanted a motorbike when i had a burl on a mates xr100 on his farm... there was no looking back from there.

(if only i was obsessed with somthing cheaper and less dangerous - but hey what else can give you the buzz of a bike?)

Always loved to look at bikes and was jealous. Got married, had the money so I bought one :dthumb: Only regret is that I didn't buy a sportbike first, althought I learned alot about riding those first couple of years so it was probably a good route.

Anywho.....my husband got me started in riding about three years ago...plus he professionally races....enough said I guess...I might be his wife, but that doesnt mean I have to stand on the side lines...or on the back of one.

I was a jeep and muscle car guy for the longest. i didnt give motorcycles a second look till a friend got an old old honda. rode it once and it clicked. Been my weakness ever since. Now jeeps and muscle cars get barely a second look.

I'll just copy my response from the hold thread...

My dad had an 84 VFR Interceptor 500. He bought it new in 84, making me 1. Ever since I saw that bike, I wanted one for my own. My dad ended up selling it a few years later when I was 6. But I still wanted a bike. It was only in the back of my mind to get one. Recently, I just started saving my money. Earlier this year, I just finished the semester and busted a$$ and pulled off A's. So, as an early birthday gift to myself, my buddy and I decided to start shopping for bikes late April. Long story short, thats how I ended up with my 01 ZX6R that same month.

BTW :welcome: Aesop Ninja!!! and V2 Matt!!!

I wonder if my son will have the exact same experience you did....

I took the MSF just to see what it was all about. Curiosity, I suppose. The course set me on a defined path. Sadly it was late in life compared to most.

I've been thinking about this some more lately... I got it cause I enjoyed the ride. Enjoyed the company of people with the same interests and the feel of hitting the open rode.... it is like nothing else around!

When I was younger my family went to a church called Set Free based in Los Angeles. Each sunday a gang of cruiser motorcycle riders would show. Maybe a 100 if not more would attend church and help out with services. Don't tell anyone but I would sneak out and admire their bikes until the morning service was over haha. Anyways later on my uncle bought himself a Ninja and I instantly fell in love with it. I guess I've always had a niche for bikes. Thanks to rising oil prices I was forced into getting one. Loving every ride. Maybe I'll get a Beull XB9R next year too.:readng:

I was in the service in 1969 and saw Easy Rider. I knew I wanted a bike, but it took me a while. I used to go to my friend's farm and ride his Hodaka 125. I was then hooked on two strokes. Got a 75 Suzuki GT750.

Anyway, this Wednesday at 11pm Eastern time, the History Channel is showcasing extreme bikes on the Automaniac show. The Vincent Black Shadow, Peter Fonda's chopper from Easy Rider, and the Ducati Monster S4R will be showcased.
