its a EX500 ... u wouldnt want to cross country on that.....and im not sure if it would be the power level youd be looking for.... i rode it for about a year and a half then stepped up to a 1000.... for a Ex500 u could find one close enough to be worth buying closer to home then 3000miles away, esp with gas prices like they r.

:iagree: That EX would be ready for the bone yard if it even made it that far at high way speeds.

Man.. I turtured my little EX500.. I always did my own maintenance, oil change, chain lube, and valve adjustments.. But that thing was a strong bike.. I had a 93 that looked beutiful but I did have a lot of TLC and work I did myself.. rode it 7 hours to college with everything on the back doing about 110 80% of the way.. :bonk:

Thats a great beginners bike but like he said you could probably find one around you, don't really think a 3000 mile trip would make sense for that bike... I loved that bike because it was strong and great for a first streetbike, as well as being plenty fast and a good intermediate bike as well.. I have heard of many people turning those bikes into their first race bike.. I'm actually thinking of doing the same thing with the one I sold about 2 years ago.. Ends up the guy I sold it too wrecked it and gave it to another friend of mine.. Might just end up being my project/track bike.. Could be fun..

Anyways

thing has been relaibvle as hell for me. its got 25+K miles on it, and the motor is showing signs of exhaustion....blowing oil when its cold, but ive seen ppl with them and GS500's put on GSXR susension or redo theres and have quite a decent track bike, since for 300$ u can knock 30lbs of it with a aluminuim subframe... 350lbs wet..... and theres a so cal shop that has a sleeve kit for em to turn it into a 600cc machine.. along with webcams race cams in it and the usual upgrades they pump em up to over 80 RWHP.... at 350lbs its not a monster but has the power to weight of a SV650.....just a smaller bike....

And as stock ive gotten over 60mpg on 200mile trips, trips to long to even make it to gas on the Z.
Love the bike, which is why i still have it, but its gonna turn into a stunter... then maybe later a track bike with a rebuild, but i doubt it...for the cost of a race engine rebuild i can just buy a late 90s 600 and do suspension.

But it is a great bike, as relaible as anything.
