NEWARK, N.J. - You can't drive with alcohol in your system, even if the vehicle is a four-ton ice-cleaning machine at a skating rink.

Zamboni operator John Peragallo was charged with drunken driving after a fellow employee at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown called police and reported that the machine was speeding and nearly crashed into the boards.

Police arrived after Peragallo had parked the machine after grooming the ice during a break in a public skating session.

Police said Peragallo's blood alcohol level was 0.12 percent. Levels of 0.08 percent and above are considered legally drunk.

Zamboni privileges were revoked for Peragallo, 63, of Randolph, who has worked for the Morris County park system since 1994.

yes you can!! When I lived in KY the mayor or some [email protected] had multiple DUI's and he was str8 for a year, until last year or maybe early this year he was operating his tractor and he backed out of his driveway and smashed into a car. He was charged with a DUI, and a jury voted him to step down. He fought this thing out for so long, and the committee won, he lost his job, and was charged with the DUI.

You can on your own property but not on public roads! You know how you see people all the time riding their lawn mower to the gas station... if your drunk while doing this you can get a DUI just as if in a car.

On cops you see people all the time riding their lawn mower to where ever on a suspendend DL and get taken to jail for it!

For a DUI you must be driving. Hence "Driving Under Influence", if you come out of a bar, get into your car and start it or turn the key you can get OUI "Operating Under Influence". They are different and each comes with different punishments. WHich I am sure both suck. Also have DWI "driving while intoxicated" and a bunch of others. Basically if you have been drinking dont do ANYTHING with your car, unless its getting into passenger seat for ride home by sober driver.

Wrong, you can actually get a ticket on your mower while mowing your own lawn. My parent's neighbor was mowing his lawn with a beer in his hand when a State Trooper drove by. The statie told the guy that he COULD be ticketed, but that most people don't know that. He told him to put the beer away and continue about his business. Of course, it may have helped a little that the trooper lived down the road from the guy.

I asked a friend of mine (a city cop) about this and he confirmed it. You CAN recieve an OVWI while mowing your lawn. So be careful this summer.
